Hire Policy for Individuals
Even though The Wardrobe has at least three staff members available every day to help you choose, accessorise and style costumes, we are also happy to let people 'have a play'. Our policy at the Wardrobe is to let your imagination fly! We allow private and corporate customers to browse through our warehouse to their heart's content, because we believe that even when you have a particular costume in mind - you are just as likely to find something even better that you hadn't thought of.
On the other hand, in cases where historical authenticity or a precise character or style is required, our team's professional experience and knowledge of our vast stock ensures that we will work closely with you to satisfy your needs, or at the very least suggest a possible alternative that will solve the problem. Even within our seemingly jam-packed warehouse, our staff can always be relied upon to locate the perfect jacket, dress, wig or hat - and it's this attention to detail that can really make an outfit!

Period of Hire
Costumes can be picked up any day from Monday to Saturday, and must be returned within one week of the pick up day. When costumes are needed for a longer time period, an extended hire rate can be arranged.
Returning Costumes
All returns must be done during opening hours to ensure that Wardrobe staff can carefully check off the costumes, and also so that any issues relating to missing or damaged items can be dealt with. Costumes returned after the due date will be subject to a minimum $5 per day late fee.
Cleaning of Costumes
We are fastidious about the cleanliness of our costumes and wigs. The Wardrobe takes full responsibility for all cleaning and maintenance of costumes, wigs and accessories. Please do not attempt to clean items yourself. Many of our garments require specialist cleaning and may be inadvertently damaged if subjected to the wrong laundering method.
Returning Exceptionally Dirty / Damaged Costumes
The Wardrobe expects that a reasonable amount of wear and tear on hired items will occur in relation to the age and condition of the stock. However, if during hire an item is damaged or requires additional cleaning the customer will be liable for a fee to cover the costs incurred by The Wardrobe in cleaning, repairing or replacing the item.
Alterations & Mending
The Wardrobe does not alter costumes for size - we usually have more than enough choice for every size - but we are always happy to mend any repairs pointed out to us before the day of pick up. Usually, customers are able to temporarily alter costumes, but this must be done by hand only. All alterations must be undone before garments return to The Wardrobe. However, some vintage items must not be altered in any way - if you are considering doing any alterations please check with Wardrobe staff at the time of hire.
